Robert and Shirley White

Robert and Shirley White came to UW-Oshkosh in 1964 to teach in the Health, Physical Education & Recreation department. Robert also became the basketball coach. During his time as coach, the UWO basketball team became a successful team – scoring three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Robert and Shirley discuss their pathways into athletics, teaching in Columbus, Ohio, famous colleague Bobby Knight, racial demographics in athletics and on UWO’s campus, and memorable players including Dorian Boyland, John Lallensack, and Rob Hayek. Robert retired from UWO in 1994, and Shirley retired in 2005.
