Everix Bakery Cookbook

UW Oshkosh Archives and Area Research Center received a copy of the Everix Bakery Cookbook in 2024 from our counterparts at UW Stout. Soon word got out, and fans of this beloved former bakery in Fond du Lac contacted us to research the book or request copies of recipes. To help feed this most delicious nostalgia, we have scanned certain parts of the cookbook below.
Emil Everix started Everix Bakery in Chilton, but in 1934 the family moved to Fond du Lac to open another bakery on the corner of Second Street and Military Road. The Everix family originally lived in an apartment above the bakery, but later operations took over the whole two-story building: breads and rolls were prepared on the first floor, while cakes and pastries were made upstairs. Surplus baked goods were given away to food pantries, and other local programs.
In 1952, the bakery made an agreement to sell their baked goods in the Sentry North and Sentry South grocery stores, the first of the Sentry stores. Later, Everix helped Godfrey Co. set up their "Crestwood Bakery" in Milwaukee, which then supplied the Sentry stores statewide.
Around 1970, Richard Everix Jr. bought the bakery from his father, Richard Everix Sr., and ran the business with his wife, Ellen. After Richard Everix Jr. died in 1994, Ellen sold the bakeries (now in four locations) to Prescott's Supermarkets Inc, the parent company of Pick n’ Save at the time, but stayed on to oversee the bakery operations. In 2002, when Roundy's bought several Wisconsin Pick 'n Save locations, Everix Bakeries were part of the deal. In 2004, the original Second Street location closed and the deteriorating building demolished. After the Everix locations finally closed, the recipes lived on in several Fond du Lac Pick n' Save stores, as well as in the sweet memories of anyone who enjoyed the treats of Everix Bakery.
